Description
Surgical gauze is a thin, loosely woven, absorbent medical fabric—typically made from 100% pure cotton or synthetic fiber blends—designed to clean wounds, absorb blood and bodily fluids, and protect surgical sites
Features
- Composition: Usually crafted from pure cotton mesh or synthetic blends (like rayon), offering high breathability and fluid wick-ability
- Sterility: Available in sterile (individually sealed for open wounds and operating rooms) and non-sterile (for general cleaning or secondary wrapping) forms.
- Ply Thickness: Measured by ply layers (e.g., 8-ply for light cleaning, 12-ply for general care, and 16-ply or higher for heavy drainage and cushioning)
- Woven: Traditional cotton mesh that is highly absorbent, though standard types can shed loose fibers.
